A Background in Psychology

BA Psychology

Janet has a long history of social service and mental health advocacy in Vermont’s urban and rural settings. As a Case Manager for both severely mentally disabled and severely mentally ill individuals, she did an extensive amount of therapeutic counseling and advocacy, and community outreach, and connecting clients to community services.

Janet has run support groups at community mental health centers and the executive director of a counseling center for 17 years. She developed several pet therapy programs for numerous non-profit organizations in Vermont. Since 2017 she and her standard poodle girl Frankie have been the lead therapy dog/handler team at Cheshire Medical Center in Keene, NH.

Since 1999 she has spent each winter season teaching music and psychology at Mount Snow Academy in Dover, Vermont. Teaching music in small groups can be a challenge. Everyone comes at a different level of musical skill and interest. She often has to tailor a class for an excellent player and someone who is just starting.

Mediation Works

Masters Certified Mediator

The key element to a good mediation is making sure that those involved feel like the other person has really been heard and understands their perspective.

Dog training is similar in that people are very passionate about their dogs and often come with their own ideas of how they would like to train their dogs.

Janet says, “It’s my job as a trainer to listen to find out what training they have tried in the past, figure out what worked and didn’t work, and then discuss how my process would work for them. “

Together we can unleash your dog’s pawsability.

Frankie the adorable Therapy Dog

Frankie is an adorable standard poodle girl who is the better half of an Alliance of Therapy Dogs therapy dog/handler team. Besides being a certified therapy dog, she has earned her American Kennel Club (AKC) Canine Good Citizen title and her AKC Therapy Dog Excellent title. The AKC – Therapy Dog Excellent title is for her having completed more than 200 hours of volunteer work.

Frankie works tirelessly to encourage smiles one paw at a time. When she is not working at area hospitals, she enjoys chasing after balls, hiking in the woods, and hanging with her friends. Frankie often accompanies Janet on her speaking engagements.
